A truly remarkable home is one that matches originality with chic design and decor. A home with a personality and an abode with a difference, this residence is not only a truly magnificent and awe-inspiring structure to look at, but is also a fun house to live in.
“The design and details of the house were in my head for a long time. I wanted to create a very modern, light and airy house, but with a cosy feel,” says the owner. He also notes that the creation of this captivating home was a sort of therapy for him. This amazing space makes use of bold colours, innovative lighting for a glitzy effect, and has interesting applications and props all over the place.
Take, for instance, the taxi cab, that forms part of what he refers to as his “cathedral”. You can see this through the bullet-proof glass floor partition. His coffee table is made from an old 1953 Ford front-end, his own “architectural” design.
The copper bath in the bathroom is from Kalk Bay and took 200 hours to make, and there is also a cast iron Victorian lamp post. The concrete sculpture in the entrance area is his “Hell’s Angel” made from Harley Davidson parts, and the wall hanger in the main bedroom is made from a 1958 Ford with four LED lights, creating what he refers to as a “Christine effect at night”.
One of the most interesting things about this home, and one of the home owners’ most prized possessions, is the 1900 Koch barber/dentist chair that offers the best view in the house and is perfect for reading or just watching the bay.
This home has been decorated through the restoration of the old rather than the acquisition of the new, and in doing so, the owner has created a home that is a treasure chest of spellbinding objects.
The enchanting use of light creates a sense of excitement throughout the home. The blue lighting on the staircase says “take this path and see where it leads”.
Follow the blue glass road to the rest of the home and be amazed at the wonderful trinkets, breathtaking items and striking things that await your discovery.
