Kitchens

A taste for entertaining

By Justine Olivier

According to Philip Richards, of blu-line living: “The demands on a kitchen are high and therefore focus needs to be applied to zone planning making sure that all the functional requirements have been met and that the design is relational, enabling various tasks to be going on at the same time.”

Cutting-edge technology allows the kitchen of today to double up as a unique living space. Today’s kitchens are equipped with the latest high definition TV. An integrated sound system and internet access are also options creating a hub of information in this multi-use room. Phil advises that the space be highly ergonomic and functional – this can only be achieved by using the latest storage solutions. “The emergence of electronic push mechanisms from Germany is giving way to exciting advances in cabinet design,” adds Phil.

The palette you choose to coat your kitchen also is a major contributing factor. Chantelle says: “Light palettes are advisable when choosing your kitchen colours, as these will not date. Monochromatic colour schemes will allow for the longevity of the kitchen but also allow you to add some personal characteristics to your kitchen.”

Chantelle concludes that “all visible appliances need to be attractive as they will be the first things that visitors see when they walk in. It is also advisable to have good storage options, as these entertainment kitchens look their best when there is no clutter visible”.
