One of the many pleasures of living in this exclusive estate home is the freedom to enjoy uninterrupted expanses of beauty, all year round.

The owners, whose personal preferences were incorporated into this design, say they now enjoy a lifestyle where one simple step from any room in the house means easy access to the magnificent outdoors.

Brilliant sea views stretching across Hout Bay Beach, and mountain views of Table Mountain National Park are visible from all angles, through large quantities of glazing. The owners say they appreciate the seamless transition from the interior to the outdoor environment, made possible through special design allowances.

One such area is the corner window in the upper lounge, that when opened provides the sheer enjoyment of uninterrupted views across 10m.

Jacques van Niekerk, of Flux Architecture, received this brief by email from abroad, after the owners had viewed another Cape Town house designed by the firm. He says the design of this house takes full advantage of both the north and south orientations by incorporating an axis through the house leading you from the front sea-facing south side to the back nature reserve, and north-facing edge of the house via a stepped central spine, branching off to various rooms and levels of the interior.

In following the clients’ brief for a modern, open, flowing house that maximises the immediate surroundings of the site, every aspect of this home incorporates beautiful scenery, such as views of Little Lion’s Head. In addition, an area was catered for where the clients’ art collection could be exhibited.

The interior styling, by Michael Prinsloo of MPD Designs, complements the existing selection of contemporary designer furniture. The introduction of quality rugs and soft furnishings in bright tones, as well as magnificent glass art emphasises an abundance of natural light flowing between luxurious living areas.

In addition to the many personal design highlights created in this home, are the kitchen and bathrooms, also reflecting the owners’ relaxed lifestyle. One of their favourite areas is the sumptuous master bathroom, where double showers are positioned above the recessed bath, finished in earthy granite textures. Such are the privileges of living in this tranquil mountainside home.
