The open-plan layout of the living space incorporates the external patio and garden area, representing an uncompromising recognition of a South African lifestyle. The design also recognises that for a few months of the year, keeping warm is a priority and sliding glazed screens enable the creation of comfortable heated living spaces.

The ever increasing use of modern technology to enhance energy efficiency has also played a significant role in the home’s design. A good example of this is seen in home automation with well designed lighting not only to create elegance but to help reduce the electricity bill. The flat roof deck has also enabled the incorporation of larger and more efficient solar collector panels than can be achieved with a conventional pitched roof.

Interior decorators from Pellerade Designs were responsible for the interior decor and created spaces that are not only functional for modern living but aesthetically pleasing. One of the main objectives of the decor in the living space was to accentuate the seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living. The choice of furniture was also well thought out as it continues the contemporary theme of the home. One example of this is the clean lines of the sofa in the lounge, chosen as it complements the clean modern lines of the architecture.

For the lounge, interior decorator from Pellerade Designs, Clint Lewis, explains that a warm and earthy palette was used. This included the burnt orange rug that matches the blinds as well as accessories such as an orange and black vase. Clint also explains that a sculptural coffee table with two-toned wood was selected as it added interest and depth to the space. For the dining area oval-back armchairs combined with high-back diners were selected. The look was completed with chenille fabric that gave the dining area an opulent look and feel with the chrome legs maintaining the contemporary element.

The main bedroom is calm and induced nothing but relaxation with muted hues. A plush chocolate fur throw was added with croc design leather lamps. The interior decorator notes that the darker wood injects that modern touch and feel. Throughout the interiors personalised artwork by artist Ruth Kloppers adorns the walls. These were specifically created to complement the interiors.

This home is all about creating an ideal space that caters for every need and more – it is low maintenance with lockup-and-go convenience while still maintaining a top-end spacious living environment.
