Bathrooms

For body, mind and soul

In terms of the latest bathroom trends, many experts suggest allowing the bath-tub to dominate as the room’s focal point.

“Freestanding baths are very popular for this purpose,” notes Glenn Varrie, of Summerplace Spas and Baths, though the size of your bathroom ultimately dictates the size of your tub, and some home owners may prefer a beautiful corner bath instead.

“Outside spas tend to be more spacious and can seat up to eight people, for example,” adds Raymond Edison, of Exquisite Bathrooms. Regardless of which one is selected, they offer an array of health benefits, and the various jets can often be custom-positioned to provide the user with the best in hydrotherapy.

Peter Jefferson, of On Tap, adds that the advancement of bath materials from plastic to Quarraycast (a mixture of resin and volcanic limestone) has revolutionised the possibilities for design. “Not only does the naturally white material retain heat, but it can also be moulded to just about any shape and form,” he says.

Caring for your jetted bath or spa is easy, and by adhering to simple rules, you are guaranteed to ensure its longevity. After each session, flush it with clean water, and use a product to descale and de-oil the plumbing at least every two months.

When choosing the ideal bath or jetted bath/spa, carefully note the size of the space and the position in which you want it to stand. Also, decide what you want from your tub and take into account the water capacity, as this will have a direct effect on your monthly electricity bill.

Most importantly, ensure that you choose a tub or a jetted bath that perfectly complements your style and satisfies your needs. Then relax in a snug tub, and completely revive your body, mind and soul.
