Samsung wows in Spain

When the invitation to attend the Samsung Africa Forum 2014 arrived in my inbox, I could not contain my excitement. There were two elements of this invite that got me smiling like a kid on Christmas morning – firstly, being a “hardcore” Samsung fan (I have never owned any other mobile/smart phone but a Samsung one) I would be privy to attend the launch of the exciting new products that the innovators would be revealing after months of hard work; and secondly (as if the first was not enough to convince me that I would definitely be attending the Forum this year) Samsung decided that for this event, it would leave the shores of SA, with its delegation including media from across Africa, and travel across the continent: destination – Malaga, Spain.

With the excitement of the trip occupying most of my mind, even during Christmas morning (the invitation came through towards the end of last year), I could not wait for 2014 to commence so that I would be that much closer to my date of departure. And when that day finally arrived, with my bags in tow, the realisation that I was about to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity was almost, for a second though, too much to take in – that was until I met other media guests, some of whom would become my “travel buddies” over the next few days as well as the Samsung team who were as welcoming as ever.

The reason Samsung hosts the annual Africa Forum is that it provides the perfect platform to reveal its new product ranges, upgrades, new technology as well as some of its key focuses in terms of social responsibility. Much of the time spent on the flight to Malaga (with a stopover at Zurich) was dedicated to eager journos (tech mostly with some lifestyle writers and editors, resulting in a colourful mix of personalities) discussing the possibilities of what the launch will reveal – the Samsung Galaxy S5 was high on that list…
