Mervyn Gers Ceramics has created an exclusive new range for the latest instalment of the hugely popular Kokkedoor brand, Son & See, set to broadcast later this year. Drawing inspiration from mid-century modern art’s breakaway from 1930s convention, and shaped by the lockdown’s austerity, the collection strikes a beautiful balance between playfulness and optimism.

Bringing an instant burst of energy to the table, each piece frames food with colour and movement, while staying true to the handmade craftsmanship and individuality that define Mervyn Gers Ceramics. Designed for dishes that deserve a touch of drama, the range brings sun-soaked energy to the series, perfectly in tune with its coastal theme.
In addition to the bold primary palette, the show will also feature a softer pastel collection in hues such as Acid Yellow, Baby Blue, Green Tea, and Dahlia.

Mervyn Gers, founder and creative director, explains: “We thrive on creative collaborations, and Kokkedoor: Son & See offered the perfect opportunity to design a collection full of life and fun. Bright primary colours – yellow, blue, and red – symbolise creativity, vitality, and visual purity, making each piece bold and eye-catching.”
Now in its fifth iteration, Kokkedoor: Son & See follows the success of Kokkedoor (2012), Kokkedoor: Vuur & Vlam, Koekedoor, and Kokkedoortjie. The new series is hosted by food experts Herman Lensing and Yolani Abrahams, who guide contestants on their culinary journeys toward the ultimate title.

“I’ve always been a big fan of Mervyn’s work,” says Herman Lensing. “He creates everything locally, tells a South African story, and his work just makes you feel good. And that’s exactly what Kokkedoor: Son & See is all about. It’s a match made in culinary heaven.
“The range is vibrant, festive – it’s joy on a plate. Every piece makes you smile and dream of holidays and celebrations. When your food is served on a beautiful plate, you can’t help but feel good. Every colour, every plate and bowl invite you to cook, share, and spend time with your loved ones. What more could you want!”

Mervyn Gers Ceramics embodies individuality, beauty, and enduring design, with a touch of rebellious spirit. Since its founding in 2011, the brand has consistently pushed creative boundaries, with more innovative designs and glazes still to come. Each piece passes through 22 pairs of hands before reaching its owner, making every item truly one of a kind. The company is also a shining example of sustainable job creation and growth, committed to eco-conscious production and recyclable packaging to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of everything they do.
