The biodiversity in the area where this property is located is truly amazing, defined by a rich fynbos landscape set against sweeping ocean views. The owner explains that this natural landscape, in all its awe, provided the perfect inspiration for the design and creation of the home. “We felt strongly about creating something that sits gently within this raw and expressive environment,” he adds. Therefore, the use of off-shutter concrete was key and reflects this intention, offering a material honesty that engages directly with the surrounding landscape rather than competing with it.
Taking the topography – particularly the site’s slope – into consideration, the property’s design was adapted to allow as much natural sunlight as possible. This led to the thoughtful inclusion of a courtyard, which creates a more intimate, sheltered space while allowing light to filter beautifully into the interior rooms.
