Fairway farmhouse

Deciding what they wanted was easy, and they approached 3 Point Architects with the brief to create a modern farmhouse – complete with wraparound “stoep” – that would make the most of the views over the adjacent golf course. The result is this fine home, where old and new is mixed together to create a homely atmosphere inside and out.

For the interior, traditional and contemporary finishes were cleverly combined to create a fresh look. While understated, it has a truly original flavour and is tailormade for easy family living. The natural colour palette ties together the open-plan downstairs living areas, creating a unified feel while still affording each space its own individual look. Similar materials and textures were also used throughout for cohesion, while stylish and sophisticated furnishings and quality finishes complete the look.

In the lounge, modern leather couches are combined with the timeless feel of wood for a sophisticated yet intimate atmosphere, while the dining room boasts old-world charm thanks to the antique furniture used.

In the kitchen, with its modern take on the traditional farm-style kitchens of old, the keyword is “understated”. The cupboards, which were painted to create an aged look, were given a modern twist through the addition of contemporary elements like the gas stove, granite tops and glass inserts, and the small black and white tiles used as accent create an almost playful atmosphere.

A breakfast nook was cleverly incorporated in the design of the kitchen – a table and chairs fit snugly into the alcove created by a bay window to create one of the family’s favourite spots.

The bedrooms are located on the top floor, and the main bedroom, specifically, was designed to open onto a balcony, which offers a panoramic view over the golf course. Downstairs, doors open up from all the living areas onto the “stoep”, where the family also spends a lot of time, either entertaining friends or simply enjoying the view.

The design of  the garden, by Pieter Muller Landscaping, echoes the simplicity of the home, with aloes (which require minimal upkeep) adding to the overall appeal. For this family, sitting on the “stoep” and taking in the sunset is the perfect way to end the day.
