Bathrooms How To

The minimalist bathroom

Written by Janine Jorgensen

The secret to a minimalist bathroom is to reduce the space to its essential elements, so it becomes a pared-back space, free of any unnecessary clutter. The key aspect to a minimalist approach is to create a sense of openness in the space. Here’s how to do it:

Storage

Remove objects from surfaces and conceal them for a clean look. Choose products that have integrated storage, such as vanity units or mirrors.

Sanitaryware

Retain a feeling of space with sanitaryware – install a free-standing bath, a wall-hung toilet with concealed cistern, floating basins, which don’t take up floor area. Digital controls will remove the need for bulky fixtures. The same line of sanitaryware will create a seamless appearance.

Glass

Glass also provides an open effect, so use it in shower enclosures. Consider a skylight or large windows which not only provide natural light but give access to the outdoors to make the space feel bigger.

Colours

Stick to a limited palette. Lighter colours will enhance the calm atmosphere and add to the airiness of the room.
