What do you love about being a woman in your specific industry?
I love project-based work. As a woman, I have a different approach to managing and co-ordinating the multiple stakeholders. I have a very good grasp on juggling personalities and managing all the different moving parts across multiple projects at the same time.
What are some of the highlights that you have experienced so far?
Restoring a house that was on the verge of falling apart. Bringing her back to life – preserving her beautiful, historical features while making her energy-efficient and welcoming again – was truly rewarding. And, honestly, nothing beats walking into a home I designed years ago and seeing people thrive in the space I created for them. That feeling of knowing I’ve made a real difference – that’s priceless.
As a woman what do you bring that is unique to the industry?
Contrary to what many might think, interior designers spend a lot of time on construction sites, often alongside predominantly male crews, rather than just in fancy showrooms or behind computer screens. What sets us apart is our collaborative spirit, empathy and emotional intelligence. We bring teams together, align everyone towards a shared vision and weave different perspectives into a holistic solution. That’s the power of a woman’s touch on-site.
How do you celebrate yourself?
By not waiting for or expecting validation from others, but acknowledging my achievements myself. Also, by feeling proud of accomplishing what I set out to do, be it small and easy or something that was a struggle and took a lot of self-motivation to get done.
A woman to me is … anything she wants to be.
