On the wings of love

The Nissan Murano takes you on a soaring journey of comfort, control and aesthetic achievement. You can’t help but love this car!

Driving the Nissan Murano was a very new and interesting experience for me. It is a big vehicle that is very present on the road – which speaks volumes about driving safety – with an overall height of 1730mm, width of 1880mm, and a ground clearance of 185mm, carrying you high “on the wings of love”. I do not use this song quote lightly, as I truly did love, well, pretty much everything about the Murano.

Considered a “cross-over” (which means something along the lines of a blend of the best of an SUV and luxury sedan), this hearty vehicle has been designed with style, class and comfort in mind to take you off road (to a degree) and crunch up the kilometers in urban driving smoothly and elegantly.

I loved the retractable sunroof for a bit of extra wind in the hair; and the parking and kerbside cameras were a huge winner for me as parallel parking is not my favourite pastime.

Inside the Murano, another cliché applies: wrapped in the lap of luxury. Leather trim swathes the interiors, including the padded armrests fore and aft (my daughter loved the fold-down armrest at the back, which revealed cupholders and a storage space for her favourite toy and sunglasses; she also enjoyed the separate airflow control function).

As expected of a luxury Nissan, the Murano will keep you connected and inspired with a combined entertainment and navigation system. Think 9.3GB music box which can store up to 3 000 songs; iPod, USB and aux connectors; Bluetooth audio streaming and DVD reader; along with high resolution touchscreen, with easy button control in case you feel the urge to push something…

…like the average passenger vehicle boundaries. The Murano is an all-terrain vehicle, with maximum traction and up to 50% torque transfer to the rear wheels in case you need to scale a bush track in the Kruger while seeking out the elusive leopard.

A V6 engine provides sturdy power, with various driver modes to choose from to suit your terrain or your mood.

With thanks to Nissan SA and AOG Media for the test drive vehicle.
