The main inspiration for these home owners was none other than the Royal Livingston hotel in Zambia. Renowned for its African Colonial architecture, the Royal Livingston contains a majestic appeal and ambience which these residents hoped to achieve in their dream home.
Considered to be one of the ultimate addresses in which to live, Silver Lakes Golf Estate is more than just a golf course – aside from its luscious championship greens, walking trails and nature reserve, the peace and tranquillity emulating from the estate is incomparable.
“We wanted something which was big, bold and over the top – where the sky is the limit,” say the home owners enthusiastically. Fulfilling their desires perfectly, project manager and construction specialist Hennie Nel overcame the challenge of building a stand on a slope of more than 21m from top to bottom, as well as fulfilling the home owners’ request of having a pool on the same level as the entertainment area.
Through the ingenious use of classic pieces, ostrich couches, cow-skin leather inserts, zebra skin, feather hats, lamps made from horns and Masai wooden crafted products sourced from all over Africa, the company brought the African Colonial ambience inside creating a natural flow from the outside in. A natural palette was used throughout the house, skin plaster walls, travertine cladding and stairs, combined with Carrol Boyes tiles with wooden inlays on the floors with red, burnt orange, purple and olive green added to the decor giving each living space character and personality.
The main bedroom is definitely a highlight for these home owners – with a spacious en suite bathroom and spectacular views of the scenery, it’s not hard to see why. All other bedrooms open onto a private balcony where the family enjoys a late breakfast and evenings gazing at the stars.
An expansive lounge area with fold-away stack doors opens up to a large patio overlooking the pristine golf course. The outside entertainment area comprises a rim-flow pool rising five metres from the ground and is elegantly surrounded by gas torches which illuminate the beautiful scene during the evenings.
The garden is nothing short of amazing: indigenous, with more than 50 species of aloes. The family’s favourite treat for their guests are African Boma dinners in the boma situated in a private area of the garden bordering the nature reserve.
“It’s a dream come true, like living in heaven so close to nature. It’s our own game lodge in the heart of the city!” say the home owners.
