I was in Cape Town last week for a mid-week break, and stayed in the most interesting little spot, called Daddy Long Legs Art Hotel. As simple as the accommodation is, it is made so interesting by the fact that each room was given to a different artist to ply his or her creative mind to. The results are a lively, funky place to lay your head to rest after a busy day trawling the arty expanse of Long Street, doing a spot of wine tasting out in the “country”, or enjoying the beauty of Noordhoek beach a mere 30-minute drive out of Cape Town.
On a morning’s meander to the market, I passed a little corner shop that had the most interesting feather light fittings and lampshades. I found these most intriguing, and would have purchased 2 on the spot if I didn’t think airport security would stop me for bringing animals on board the plane. But the delicacy of these well crafted shades made them highly elegant, and in the right room with the right furnishings, would add a whispy glamour.
