Up the garden path

By Rami Moorosi

The Garden Route is surreal with breathtaking scenery and nature at its best. The region is a rich tapestry that comprises a coastline boasting warm beaches fringing the Indian Ocean.

Must-see attractions include geological wonders such as the Cango Caves situated outside Oudtshoorn. Nature reserves encamp a wide variety of ecosystems in the area, which include unique marine reserves boasting coral reefs, dolphins and seals.

The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate that means warm summers and mild winters, making it the perfect hide-away during the winter months. The good rainfall throughout the year is a result of the typography of the Indian Ocean on one side and the mountain slopes on the other.

For people who love to shop, this region is definitely the place to be. The Garden Route is renowned for its artists that offer home owners inter-alia wooden furniture, paintings, sculptures, functional art, jewellery and haberdashery.

Manufacturers and suppliers in the region have an understating of the climate and sea and the effect it has on home finishes and decor items’ life expectancy, which means that they can help in guiding customers to make informed decisions. Another plus for shopping where the goods are made is that local suppliers are able to provide clients with a more timely response to needs and requests.

The unmatched beauty of the Garden Route has a lot to offer its inhabitants and visitors, whether it is for home decor shopping, golf or to appreciate Mother Earth in all her splendour – the Garden Route should be on everyone’s “places to visit” list.
