Windows of Wonder

By Anna-Marie Smith

After demolishing the original structure on this 100m² site, the architect, Tinus van den Berg of Novo Architects, implemented his design that was created for this magnificent three-level home. An abundance of glazing on both the northern and southern sides of the house reveals magnificent panoramic views. Mosselbay Harbour and the stately Outenikwa mountain range stretch into picture perfection from all the living areas.

In their support for local suppliers, the owners say they were impressed with service levels. Haas Das Electronics, which was briefed with specifications for a high-tech home theatre, travelled to the site, and sourced what was required to complete this state of the art home automation and theatre.

Practical design and finishing elements are what make this home a relaxed living environment. Low maintenance, superior quality materials were installed such as the Qualuminium window and door structures, visible in the imposing glass entrance hall across the two top levels. A fine ambience was created where magnificent interior design and decor elements in generous interior spaces were optimised by Lilja Lakic, the interior designer.

Individual bathrooms were designed to offer a window onto the magnificent outdoors. The owners say that among the many pleasures their new home offers, showering and bathing with views across the ocean produces memories to treasure forever.Novo Architects( 072 511 6045 )The sustainable contemporary architectural style of this home was inspired by the breathtaking panoramic views. This design formed box-like pieces that are linked together to create functional and pleasing living spaces. Novo Architects integrated form and function into the design. The house offers expanded spaces through open floor plans, inviting the outdoors in through floor to ceiling windows that bathe interiors with natural light. By maximising 180 degree panoramic views from every room the volume and light is enhanced, drawing the Outeniqwa Mountains with sunsets and sunrises inward.Qualuminium (044 695 2296)Qualuminium, a well stablished operation since 1997, and now black empowered, specialises in the manufacturing and installation of aluminium window frames, doors, as well as related products and services.
