Their journey began when they first saw the exteriors of the house – it was here that they were able to look beyond the existing structure to see the home’s true potential. The owner adds that she didn’t want a home that had a distinguishing style, such as Tuscan or Bali. Instead she wanted a blank canvas and that would allow her to inject her own style.
The inclusion of big windows and openings to flood the interiors with natural light created space in the home. Converting certain walls into windows incorporated the picturesque views of the nearby golf course into the interiors.
The home owner, an interior decorator, filled the blank canvas through layers of loved objects collected over time. Most of the handmade pieces were supplied by Katundu Interiors and Objets d’Art. The owner’s diverse collection varies from French and oriental to African, but come together to reflect the owner’s unique and sophisticated taste.
When it comes to colours and textures, the home takes its inspiration from nature. The natural materials that adorn the spaces include wool, concrete, linen and silk. Continuing with this theme is a backdrop created with a natural palette, while accent pieces are infused with colour – an excellent idea as this allows the owner to play and change colours easily.
As an interior decorator she concludes by advising other home owners to gravitate towards decor items that make you fall in love with them over and over again, and go for things that are timeless.
