When asked to describe the thought processes behind this unique structure the owner explained: “We wanted to created a piece of architectural art that was appealing from the exterior as well as the interiors.” Anyone who is privileged to visit the home will agree that they were more than successful in this goal. The theme that runs throughout the interiors as well as the exteriors is a harmonious fusion of country elements that blends with modern features such as the clean straight lines.
The light and airy feel of the spaces was achieved through the use of masses of glass, openings and windows. This also had another advantage – it brings the majestic splendour that is outside, inside the home.
The use of tapered ceilings adds to the feeling of space and volume and has been accentuated by exposed trusses that are seen all through the interiors. The trusses also add to the farmstyle or country look. This articulation of spaces, heights and volumes creates an interesting visual experience with constant focal points as you journey through and around the home.
The kitchen incorporates simplicity with clean lines, yet still manages to impress an inviting feel. In line with the rest of the home, it displays contemporary elements that have been used creatively to enhance its natural brilliance. The cabinets are in dark walnut veneer that has been creatively contrasted by doors in a cream colour and white tops, while attention to detail is seen with elegant finishes such as the aluminium edging and strip handles.
The interior decoration uses a neutral palette of hues, and contrast has been brought in through dark-coloured furniture and extensive use of dark wood as seen in the furniture, window and door frames, and trusses. The contemporary style of the decor was achieved by the uncluttered nature of spaces and modern finishes.
The end result from the owners’ efforts is a stylish home that has a farmhouse appearance, but with modern twist. It is warm and inviting while providing its residents a sense of country living.
