Charming renovation

By Anna Marie- Smith

Bordering on Oranjezicht and overlooked in stately fashion by Lion’s Head, with spectacular views of Signal Hill from the interior, this renewed structure is now a gorgeous abode with a distinct theme of whites and greys.

While the house had historical value, it no long possessed much aesthetic or architectural value, and this is where their architect’s invaluable advice and design made all the difference. Built in close co-operation with Cape Core Construction, the end result proved that an old building can be renewed with much added value and beauty.

The owners, who themselves are active in the construction industry, say they were lucky to be familiar with procedures when dealing with the Heritage Council, as well as how to treat an old structure. Superior-quality products were used to treat structural elements, to ensure long-term results.

The sophisticated interior of the home exudes calm and restfulness, just like the relaxing flow of all the living areas towards the outdoor patio area. A fine selection of subtle tones and smooth textures blend in perfectly with interior finishes, enhancing magnificent white floors and shutters, and contrasting with the silvery grey tones of stainless steel and aluminium.

Touches of rich grey were applied to link up with modern window coverings, rugs and cushions, while sleek designer furniture in pure white rests comfortably in the living area.
