It’s been an exhilarating month at City Centre, Steyn City’s flagship urban living apartment development. Jovic explains that her design drew inspiration from the beauty of texture and imperfections – “as we see in nature”. “I have tried to keep the design clean and simple, yet rich in small details.” This helped to create the illusion of space, while offering an adaptable canvas that can be completely altered with the addition of throws, an artwork or scatter cushions. Jovic adds that she was influenced by the Japanese tradition of wabi-sabi, an aesthetic concept that finds beauty and serenity in objects, landscapes and designs that are simple and imperfect.
Bringing the outdoors in
Outdoor living is a large part of the lifestyle at both Steyn City and City Centre, encouraged by features like the 2 000-acre indigenous parkland, outdoor art gallery, treed piazzas and 300m lagoon. Jovic chose to emphasise this accent on the outdoors by bringing the textures and emotions of the environment into the space, creating a seamless transition between the living space and the outside elements. The result? A sense of calm; a feeling that less is more.
Marrying convenience and luxury
This ambience is enhanced by the spaciousness of each home within City Centre, where generous dimensions are enhanced by features like wide passages and high ceilings. The luxury for which the development is known is evidenced through such touches as integrated kitchens with Gaggenau appliances and Kohler sanitaryware, while the convenience it promises is delivered through air conditioning and “always on” facilities like piped gas to each home, a backup generator and water reservoir.
