This property, situated on the world-renowned Val De Vie Estate in the Winelands, is where the Schwendtke family call home. Having lived in the United States and Australia, the family ultimately decided to make Africa their home. “We love Africa and we love estates, so what better combination,” says owner Karen Schwendtke.
This four-bedroomed home, equipped with a separate guest house, is definitely a stand-out when it comes to the aesthetics of the estate. “We didn’t want to feel closed in,” explains Schwendtke. A new build, the owners did everything possible to give their property an open feel. The property does not conform to other houses on the estate and is situated right on the water’s edge, sporting its own jetty. “I wanted somewhere to sit and appreciate my surroundings,” explains Schwendtke. Being close to the nature reserve, with wraparound mountains, the owners relish hearing the sounds of the zebras and birdlife in its surrounds.
