The home was apparently designed by FLH Fleming (Sir Herbert Baker’s partner) at the start of the 20th century. Many years and owners later, the home was in need of a complete overhaul. The owners tried to keep the exterior as close to the original design as possible, and used granite for the patio and slate for the roof.
The interior, however, was changed considerably in order to make the living spaces flow better, and to make it more spacious and airy. Step one was to replace the old wooden floors, which were beyond repair, with large travertine tiles. The hallway was transformed into a study, and the original four bedrooms were replaced with two massive en suite bedrooms. The living area, which consists of a lounge and informal TV room, as well as a formal dining room, was opened up to modernise the rooms, make them flow together, and to maximise the view.
The home is adorned with impressive works of art, Persian rugs, as well as antique pieces that the owners have collected over the years. While the decor is grand, it is not stiff or overbearing. Rather, the rooms are comfortable and liveable, as the owners believe that your home is your haven, and that it should make you feel sheltered, safe and completely at ease.
The kitchen, with its magnificent glass chandelier and 8-seater table, is a favourite spot as friends and family often gather here for a meal. Another impressive room is the main bedroom’s en suite bathroom, where you can soak the day’s worries away while watching your favourite programme on the flat screen television.
