Plascon Inspires

Blending in

By Ilze Hugo, Photography Mickey Hoyle, Production Liezel Norval-Kruger, Assistant Kara Furter, Model Carla Erasmus

The ombre effect is a breeze to master as proved in this beckoning boudoir where a fusion of pretty pastels creates a dreamy dynamic.

You will need:

Paint: Plascon Double Velvet

Colours: Decide (B2-A2-2)
Cool Idea (B7-B2-1)
Frothy Milk (DC 7) for the base coat

Other: Sandpaper, a dropcloth, Plascon Water-Based scumble glaze, two paint trays, a smooth- surface roller and three wide brushes for blending.

Time needed: 2 hours

The prep:

Thoroughly prepare the walls you wish to paint, filling and sanding any cracks if necessary. Wash the walls to get rid of any dust and leave to dry. Use a dropcloth to protect floors and any furniture that cannot be moved.

Hot tip:

Practise on a piece of cardboard first to master this effect before trying it on your wall.

Get the look:

Step 1: The secret to this look is mixing your paints with scumble glaze before blending the colours, so that they don’t dry too quickly. Start by applying a section of Plascon Decide to the top of the wall.

Step 2: Use a clean roller to apply a section of Plascon Cool Idea below. Don’t allow the colours to overlap. Make sure you have a brush ready for each colour, as well as an extra dry brush.

Step 3: Blend the Decide towards the Cool Idea using a wide brush, then use another brush, then use another brush and blend the Cool Idea in the direction of the Decide. Follow this by blending with the third, dry brush. Work it back and forth in a crisscross motion.
