Great design should be part of every space. Universal design is the creation of space that is universally accessible by everyone. The principles are rooted in good ergonomics and ease of use by everyone – children, people with disabilities, the ageing population, and everyone in between. It is not clinical design, but rather the merging of beautiful aesthetics with functionality.
Charlene le Roux, showroom and inspirations specialist at Blum, shares how Blum products are designed to offer solutions that meet the latest design trends, are ergonomic and maximise storage space. Whether interior spaces are vast or compact, built-in, or modular, Blum will inspire with clever cabinet solutions to meet user needs.
Ideas from Blum to create universally friendly spaces:
Daily kitchen activities made easy
Tests have shown that shelves in base units are a problem, especially for people with movement limitations. Pullouts are more ergonomic and easier to use. Blum offers a range of different box and runner systems that can be combined with TIP-ON BLUMOTION or SERVO-DRIVE motion technologies for soft and effortless closing of shallow and deep pullouts. Blum’s SPACE TWIN can be used as a pullout for spices, cleaning detergents or in the bathroom. Waste bins within deep pullouts allow for a clean and integrated design.

Everything visible at a glance
Wall cabinets with lift systems give you easy access to interiors. They are easy to open and glide up and out of your way. AVENTOS lift systems hold in any position and close softly and effortlessly with BLUMOTION. Add a SPACE STEP to reach content while also creating extra storage in the plinth.

Vertical storage
The SPACE TOWER unit can be designed in widths up to 1 200mm and can be used as a larder unit in the kitchen, storage unit in the bathroom or as a linen cupboard. The internal pullouts are full extension that give you clear visibility and easy access to provisions from all three sides.

Landing areas
They increase the safety of various kitchen activities, including removing hot dishes from the microwave or heavy pots from the hob. Install a pullout SHELF LOCK to overcome the issue of missing work surfaces at eye-level appliances. The SHELF LOCK is a great solution to store small appliances.
