What do you love about being a woman in your specific industry
I love knowing that I’m probably one in a million. It reminds me that I’m strong, resilient and full of grit. I’m proud that young women can look at someone like me and feel confident that they too can run a successful manufacturing business – because they’ve seen that it’s possible. Growing up, I didn’t have many examples of women doing this kind of work, so being able to be that for someone else now feels incredibly meaningful.
What are some of the highlights that you have experienced so far?
There are a few, thankfully. Becoming the 100% shareholder of a leading South African design and manufacturing company is a huge one. Taking my product across the globe is another. I built a major brand from scratch – with no funding, just an iPhone, an idea and a lot of determination. I’m also incredibly proud that our senior management team remains entirely female-led. I don’t know what makes me prouder – how we started or how we’ve stayed true to who we are.
A woman to me is … love. Love is strong, bold and brave, and so are we as women.
