Situated on an upmarket, secure estate in Pretoria, this home provides its residents with peace and serenity that comes from being part of nature, with modern conveniences and amenities close by.

From its design through to the selection of furniture, the owners wanted an “old meets new” look as they liked both contemporary and classic styles. The outcome was a home that finds a middle ground where these elements fuse to form the ideal dwelling that caters for a modern lifestyle.

A good example of this is seen in the combination of glass elements, which are more typical in contemporary design, with more traditional materials such as wooden architraves throughout the house.

This was complemented by stainless steel finishes like the balustrades on the balconies and the door handles that provide a stylish modern edge.

The home enjoys the best of both worlds with a wine cellar that adds an elegant touch, while the kitchen comprises clean lines with modern finishes like the coffee machine.

The home owners go on to explain: “We like both old and new, and wanted a house that could reflect that. So throughout you get very modern elements and some classical elements as well.

The interior decoration continues the well-established theme, with a mixture of Bali, classical and touches of modern decor pieces. This created spaces that are visually appealing yet fully functional.

The living areas of the house are all open-plan, with different areas separated by a few steps or a fireplace only. These spaces flow effortlessly into one another making it perfect for entertaining, especially larger crowds. The family enjoys spending time outdoors and they wanted a home that made a seamless transition to the outside, while still emitting an elegant feeling. The outside patio and swimming pool, braai area and boma were therefore designed to be an extension of the interior living areas.

Adding to the residents’ quality of life is the dam on the estate, with a variety of birds and ducks, making this a great area for picnics and taking leisurely walks. Only a few minutes away is a golf course, a shopping centre, restaurants and much more.
