Michelle Rust is the co-founder and creative director of Okracandle. Aged 29, Michelle is a dynamic, hardworking, and respected woman making huge waves in the business, innovation, and design industries.
In 2019, I embarked on a creative journey that began with a challenge during preparations for a television shoot. Needing a specific type of candle unavailable in South Africa, I faced a pivotal moment when my business (and life) partner, Erik, suggested we simply make it themselves. This idea led to the purchase of their first 3D printer and the birth of Okracandle.
Initially, my candle-making was a personal project, but the COVID-19 pandemic inspired us to share our unique creations with South Africa. My passion for imaginative installations allows me to artistically tell stories through wax. My creativity extends to event styling, where I collaborate with Jana Gouws from Altijd to create stunning designs.
My background as a creative professional specialising in trends and design has always driven me to seek innovative ways to express artistry. The creation of Okracandle allowed me to merge this passion with my love for crafting beautiful, sophisticated products. Our candles are not just functional items; they are pieces of art that tell a story, enhance environments, and create memorable experiences.
