Having fallen in love with South Africa on their many trips to the country, the home owners decided to settle in a region known for its natural diversity and abundance of game. As bush lovers, the couple wanted their home to resemble an authentic African lodge. “A must for us therefore was obviously the thatched roof.”
The surroundings are an important element of this home. “For us, nature is the hero, and our lodge had to fit into it perfectly with the feeling, as you enter, of being one with the surroundings.” Each room offers a view of the Kruger National Park and the Sabie River. To create an “Out of Africa” aesthetic, the materials and colours used throughout the lodge mimic the natural landscape. Much time was spent finding the right fabric, furniture pieces and decorative objects to honour the bushveld theme, explains the owner. “It was essential that it be in perfect communion with the wildlife surrounding it.”
