The beauty about reaching retirement is that you have more time to really enjoy life, without the worries of work. Some say you get to enjoy the little things in life.

These owners made sure of it with their home in a matured lifestyle estate. This award-winning retirement village not only offers those over 50 a comfortable place to call home, but the various facilities available make it a much sought-after, upmarket residential development.

The exterior of the home may give the impression of an old farm-style house in the country, but as soon as you step in, the modern furniture and open-plan design lend themselves to a more contemporary take on retirement.

A few adjustments were made to the initial three-bedroom house in order to create spaces conducive to the home owner’s entertaining requirements. The owners had to receive permission from the developers to enlarge the entertaining space, which would accommodate not only their guests, but their pets too. This allows the formal lounge to flow seamlessly into the dining area and patio.

As part of the renovations, the home owners also requested that a passage wall along the third bedroom be removed in order to create a walk-in study and music room, where one of the owners could enjoy playing the acoustic guitar.

The home owners’ love for animals can be seen through their choice of artworks, which include wildlife photography.

The neutral colour scheme is broken with pops of colour in just the right places, and the strong presence of wood throughout the house creates a natural palette which adds to the simple, but sophisticated look of the home.
