There’s an old Maori saying: “The block of wood should not dictate to the carver.” To create something out of wood, especially an entire living space, is an inviting, warm and charming way to make your house a home – just as these home owners have done. Opulent ocean views, beautiful beaches, luscious greenery and superb sunsets are what the residents of this lavish lifestyle estate can expect.

The “design and build” concept of the estate follows a Balinese architectural style, with a specified roof style and colour. Kaye and Kussial Architectural Consultants were responsible for the impressive design of this home.

According to the owners, “the house was designed largely to maximise the beautiful sea breakers, inland hills and ‘forest’ views”. The construction of the home was completed by Pride Construction.

Originally when the house was built, it was intended to be a holiday home. However, the final product sparked such an overwhelming reaction within the owners that they felt that enjoying what had been created to its fullest was the only option. Taking up residence here was the only way forward, and a wise and wonderful decision it was,
considering all the aspects that come together to make this home a haven.

“While the exterior has dark wooden decks, stack doors and shutters that were supplied by Shuttersafe, the interior is light and open, featuring double volume wooden clad rafters. The large, open-plan living/entertainment area takes the inside out with ease, and vice versa.” This way, a graceful flow from interior to exterior is achieved, creating a perfect tide in the space.

Furnishings in the home were designed around existing antique pieces, and combined with the addition of Chinese furniture and artefacts, the interiors showcase a harmonious merge of styles. “The Chinese influence brings our vision of the finished home together perfectly,” explains the owner. Such oriental influences can be seen from the exterior right through to the finer details such as small statues and vases, Bonsai trees, lamp shades, mirror frames, and even in the headboards of the beds. Norick Interiors supplied the Chinese classical furniture that features throughout this home and with these pieces, the home owners were able to enhance the tranquil appeal that they set out to achieve.

While admiring the fine details of this lavish home, one cannot help but notice the decorative mirrors in the main living areas as well. Also in this space, the oxblood leather couches, small plants and soft furnishing are all complementary and add to the calming ambience of the home.

With the prominent use of wood, the gorgeous ocean nearby, and the abundance of foliage right outside their home, seclusion and privacy are achieved in the most peaceful and lithe way. Transcendent decoration and prosperous oriental ideas make this home an awe-inspiring residence to visitors, guests, and especially the home owners.
