Run by the Gerbi family, Build Antique restores vintage and antique doors and windows at its on-site workshop. Using the reclaimed timber, the company crafts specialised timber items.
What do you love about your profession?
It’s incredibly satisfying to match a client with a special antique or vintage item that they thought they would never find. Watching the transformation of someone’s home, using our exclusive pieces, is very rewarding. Sourcing pieces with architectural interest from Europe and locally is also an exciting process.
What legacy would you like to leave in the industry?
I would love to build up the widest selection of vintage and antique doors in the country. I believe I’m continuing the legacy of my late father and brother. I think they would have loved to witness our business, which they started 60 years ago, expand and grow the way it has over the past few years. They left me a solid base on which to build beautiful stock.
Who or what has been your inspiration throughout your life?
My parents and twin brothers have been my inspiration throughout my life. They have always instilled a strong work ethic and the notion of not being afraid to work hard. We grew up with a very strong family connection and being able to rely 100% on each other.
A woman to me is … entrepreneurial, strong, resilient and hard-working. South African women, in particular, deserve to be recognised for all the daily challenges that they face.
