What began with guests asking where they could buy the furniture and décor at Pineapple House Boutique Hotel has evolved into Pineapple House Interiors – a thoughtfully curated collection of bespoke furniture, authentic Indian block-printed textiles and handcrafted pieces by talented artisans.

Since opening their 14-bedroom boutique hotel in a restored 1920s Victorian house in Sea Point, Les and Rupert Sykes have created an interior defined by colour, character and craftsmanship. Working closely with South African makers, artists and suppliers, they filled the hotel with pieces that feel collected rather than simply decorated. Guests soon wanted to take that distinctive aesthetic home.
“We did not set out to open a shop. We built the hotel around pieces we loved and the work of talented makers, and guests kept asking if they could take a little of it home,” says Les.

For the couple, the story behind each piece is just as important as its design. Customers are encouraged to discover where an item came from, who made it and the techniques and traditions behind its creation. The collection includes bespoke furniture, custom joinery, upholstery, soft furnishings and handcrafted objects, with made-to-order pieces, one-of-a-kind commissions and a sourcing service also available.
The Pineapple House aesthetic is rooted in warmth, personality and a sense of welcome – something reflected in the brand’s name. The pineapple became the emblem of the hotel after Les and Rupert brought home a pineapple decal they had used while living in the UK. Its longstanding association with hospitality made it a fitting symbol for their Cape Town home.

Pineapple House Interiors opened at The Palms in Woodstock on 3 September 2026, offering visitors the opportunity to discover the makers, materials and stories behind the collection – and perhaps take a little piece of Pineapple House home.
