The paint looks beautiful! The first layer is on the walls, and it gives a warm glow to the room we have dubbed the “great room”. Added to that are the floor tiles, which are half finished after only two days of work. All the interior door frames are now in place, and work has begun on installing the bathroom fittings, namely baths and showers.
There has also been a lot of work on the finishing touches; neatening the edges of MgO boards, sanding and smoothing. The Silca products supplied for the joints between the MgO boards are working well.
On the electrical side, all the plug points have been installed with the switches now in place. We are still waiting for the electrical connection from Eskom. At this rate, we may well have our solar system up and running before Eskom joins the party.
The windows were removed and then sealed back into place, so now we have watertight windows. There are still problems with a few of the window and aluminium door frames, which will be resolved next week. The overall look of the windows with no sills is taking time to get used to, but once the walls are painted this will probably not be so noticeable.
We are now deep into planning the interior decorating. Marijke MacRitchie from The Design Studio has come on board to help us with the paint choice (that’s why it looks so good), and she has been shopping, shopping, shopping for fabrics and coming up with awesome designs and ideas. We are trying to create a neutral palettte, and then accessorise with colours. Marijke has been looking at textures and patterns that boggle our minds, and we can’t wait to see the final ideas.
We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our steel staircase, but it would seem that our steep curve is giving the manufacturers a few grey hairs.
Not long to go now, we’ll keep you posted!
