Over the past few weeks we’ve been bringing you a selection of “stand-out” rooms from the homes featured on the pages of SA Home Owner. This week, we take a look at our favourite dining rooms.
This home, which was built in the 1970s, was recently renovated and decorated with pieces of art from the home owner’s travels around the world: paintings from Haiti, authentic papyrus scrolls and gold-plated frames from Egypt, and inherited furniture that is simply timeless.
As you walk into this home, you are met by a grand wooden dining table, which is any entertainer’s dream. The decor is contemporary, with an African twist, and features a number of animal-skin rugs, wooden sculptures and striking prints on the walls.
One of the home owner’s favourite pieces in this house is their magnificent fluted Acryluso dining table by Laser Edge Designs. The table was custom-made to seat 12 people comfortably, and brings the different styles of upholstered chairs together, creating the perfect ambience for a dinner party.
After spending a holiday at Gowrie Farm, these home owners were inspired to build their house in a similar style. Their active involvement in the drawing up of the house plans resulted in the country farm-style house they now call home.
Inspired by the surroundings, most of the home is decorated in natural hues, with local artwork throughout, and wooden finishes in the kitchen-dining area.
Fitting in with the juxtaposition of old and new, the home was decorated with furniture that the couple has had for years, with modern features added to give the home a contemporary look.
Originally built in the 1990s, this three-storey house has been transformed into a home of quality, with a relaxed, contemporary feel. With clever use of glass, mirrors and metallic accents, light is reflected all around.
Family Affair specialises in custom-made furniture and interior design services. In this home, the company supplied the tables and chairs. Different finishes were used, such as a white, high gloss on the Victoria occasional chair, a mahogany stain on the Karolina dining-room chairs, and a dark, matte finish on the Moda coffee table.
