Straight from the catwalk, experts have hinted that the trends for summer 2012 are leaning towards the global traveller look, with fun nautical fabrics, splashes of red and white and a range of deep blues. Do not limit yourself though; play with a few metallics or a bright colour to accent the different shades of blue.
Closer to home, the trend of Ikat prints is becoming more prominent, highlighting texture with the weaving of thread into patterns. When using an Ikat printed fabric, stick to using the fabric on signature pieces like an accent chair that will define a space.
Wallpaper is always a great way to bring some excitement to a drab space. Feature walls in your lounge, bedroom, bathroom and even your kitchen can draw interest and inspire you to decorate. When selecting wallpapers, keep in mind the colours that you love and patterns that complement your space. Go crazy with textures – this year the trend gives rise to different textures, which is in itself a feature.
