The Cavalier, San Francisco

Written by Jess Binns

If you find your lucky selves heading to San Francisco any time soon, I highly recommend you check out the English-inspired, Cavalier restaurant. Designed by the much-loved Ken Fulk, the Cavalier is a complete treat for your eyes, let alone your taste buds!

I love it when you walk in to a restaurant and it transports you either back in time or into a new world altogether. In this day and age we expect so much more for our “bucks” when eating out. The atmosphere has to excite all the senses, and this is where the Cavalier certainly delivers. The main bar is reticent of a modern-day hunting lodge with its taxidermy heads adorning the walls, alongside the deep-buttoned leather banquette that runs the length of the space.

An air of drama is achieved with the addition of salvaged cathedral lanterns suspended over the bar area, and the most stunning shade of blue on the walls as a backdrop. Delve further in and you will discover additional private dining spaces, which provide a more intimate affair for a night out. Again Ken Fulk has pulled out all the stops by adding hand-painted hunting scenes and brass luggage racks to bring about that sense of British history.

Unfortunately as I have not yet been lucky to experience the Cavalier first-hand, I cannot speak for the food. But if the reviews are anything to go on, this is the place to eat and be seen in in San Francisco right now!
