Scion’s latest collection – Wabi Sabi

Written by admin

Have you ever heard of the Great British fabric house Harlequin? I think it’s safe to say that if you work or have even dabbled in interior design, this name will ring several bells. Harlequin is one of those long established companies that consistently pumps out great design which appeals to a wide audience. Even back in my junior days of working for an interiors company, I was always reaching for the Harlequin books for my clients to peruse.

I digress, what I want to share with all of you today, is Harlequin’s newest baby, Scion. Scion is a brand developed by Harlequin to fill the gaps in their repertoire of extensive fabrics and wallpapers. Catering for the more edgy customer, Scion collections concentrate on more affordable, trend setting and fashion savvy designs, appealing to a growing audience of up and coming designers who have welcomed this new development with open arms.

While their debut collection provided an appealing Scandinavian influence, their latest collection Wabi Sabi is reaching new heights. With daring patterns and colours, Wabi Sabi takes a very forward thinking approach and, combined with age old hand crafted techniques such as Batik and Shibori, serves to widen it’s a appeal with a wonderful sense of ‘new meets old’ which is so prevalent in today’s world of design.

Scion excites me. I feel that as a collective, interior designers tend to stay safe with pattern and colour and whilst I’d never plaster my clients houses in a mish mash of geometric and florals combined, there is definitely a place to bring such designs into a home without needing to reach for the sunglasses.
