Stand-out kitchens from 2023

Written by Shereen Lurie

Certain kitchens possess an innate ability to distinguish themselves. Below, discover a collection of kitchens that captivated the SA Home Owner team with their distinctive design elements and exceptional craftsmanship.

1. Wide open spaces

Linear Concepts specialises in European-designed bespoke kitchens, bars and wine cellars. Linear Concepts oversees projects related to its products, from design inception to manufacturing with imported materials of the highest quality and, finally, on-site oversight of final installation. The kitchen and two bars in this home were designed with luxury in mind to complement the sophisticated décor in the rest of the house. The home owner wanted brass touches in the colour scheme, and off-white and champagne colours were used for cabinetry to play off the brass décor in the space.

2. Where Memories Are Made

nuuma creates exclusive kitchens that truly elevate the luxury in a home. Using the best materials and expertise, the company created this kitchen using its vintage iron satin lacquer combined with smoked mirrors and textured stone to bring depth. Elements of wood were also incorporated to keep the space grounded. The contrasting materials ensure that the kitchen area makes a statement while still seamlessly integrating with the rest of the interior.

3. A Home With Heart

The owner wanted to combine different materials and elements to create a show kitchen with artistic flair. By incorporating bold and neutral colours into an industrial design, Linear Concepts achieved a glamorous yet natural look for this space. The company specialises in European- designed bespoke kitchens, bars, and wine cellars, and is involved in every aspect of the project, from design to installation. Linear Concepts imports materials of the highest quality to deliver the desired aesthetic. For this home, the company used imported quartz and Italian porcelain, with veneer wood and imported doors for the kitchen.

4. A Bold Statement

The home owner required a ‘simply sophisticated’ kitchen that draws attention through its simplicity and celebrates functionality. The dark-toned kitchen is a beautiful contrast in a space that already draws in much light. To complete the look, The Kitchen and Granite Studio brought in light wood elements that soften the dark tone, giving the kitchen an earthy and homely feel. Known for its high-end and bespoke kitchens, all projects by the company are designed, manufactured and installed entirely in-house with its 450-person strong team.

5. Old Meets New

Dezign A Door specialises in bespoke cabinetry for kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and any space in your home. Dezign A Door worked hand in hand with the interior designer to manufacture and install a contemporary kitchen that replaced the existing impractical and outdated kitchen. The client needed more storage, presenting some challenges that involved working around the beautiful existing AGA stove the client wanted to feature. Dezign A Door used a combination of Satin White Duco and Sahara Oak Veneer in the kitchen, coffee station and storage unit to create an updated timeless space.

6. Bushveld Beauty

Inspired by the owners’ desire for a kitchen that was “bold” and “modern”, Atelier 33 Bespoke Design introduced dark colours to create a striking space. Atelier 33 Bespoke Design offers a turnkey service, from design to manufacture. The company was responsible for the design of the cabinetry throughout the home. As avid wine enthusiasts, the owners wanted the wine cellar to be an integral part of the kitchen. This space flows seamlessly through to the dining, TV and entertainment rooms, which harmonise with each other through cabinetry design. Inside, the cupboards are colour-coded with grey carcasses and Blum Legrabox runners and soft close hinges. The style is contemporary with touches of class and sophistication.

7. Simple Elegance

Linear Concepts collaborated with the architects to curate an elegant and impressive kitchen. Natural materials, such as wood and stone, add touches of warmth and provide a connection with nature, while the metallic accents provide visual appeal. Designed to ensure a balance of functionality and aesthetics, the kitchen allows for an efficient use of space. Imported neutral-coloured doors with a mixture of Italian porcelain and quartz stones ensure a luxurious finish. Beautiful to look at, the quartz stones are also engineered to offer durability, strength and scratch-resistance. By combining contemporary design with natural elements, Linear Concepts has created a space that is refined and inviting.
