Bringing sustainable green living to Sebokeng

Cathro Earthscapes is one of the leading young landscaping companies in the South African market. The team have a deeply entrenched commitment to environmental sustainability and a deep love for nature. This passion made them the clear choice to assist in the creation of a green park in Sebokeng, a township in the south of Gauteng.

When Cathro Earthscapes was asked to come on board and lend their expert design and project-management skills to this projects, they jumped at the opportunity. “It has always been our passion to help minimise the carbon footprint of our country, in any way we can,” explains Cathrin Roets, founder of Cathro Earthscapes. “We also felt that this was a great way for us to get involved and give something back to the community.”

The team set about creating a veritable paradise filled with indigenous trees and shrubs – nestled in close proximity to two soccer fields. The space now offers citizens of Sebokeng an area where they can relax, play soccer and have fun in a beautiful, natural setting.  The team planted 420 trees (including River Bush Willows, White Stinkwood and African Olives) along with 3800 ground covers and shrubs. A number of jungle gyms were also incorporated into the park to attract young children so that they can play safely while enjoying nature.

What made this project even more special is the fact that members of the community were involved in the planting of the trees and shrubs that were used to create the park.

This park is also beneficial to the environment, as one tree can absorb as much as 22 kilograms of carbon dioxide per year.

With thanks to Cathro Earthscapes
