In September the London Design Festival, one of the most important events on the global design calendar, marked its 10th anniversary.
The London Design Festival is a key constituent of London’s autumn creative season, alongside London Fashion Week, the Frieze Art Fair and the London Film Festival. Its role is to celebrate and promote London as the world’s creative capital and gateway to the UK’s world-class creative community.
Conceived by Sir John Sorrell and Ben Evans, the festival was originally designed to pay tribute to the capital’s creativity and innovation – ten years later, this aim has been achieved beyond all expectations.
With an audience of over 350,000 attending festival events, and more than two million people experiencing large-scale outdoor installations, the London Design Festival can now claim to have the world’s biggest audience for a design event, with visitors from over 50 countries recorded in 2011.
And, after this year’s festival, even the New York Times declared London as the design capital of the world. For more info on this year’s festival, visit www.londondesignfestival.com.
