Don Café House

Written by Jess Binns

All over the world our love of seeking out the perfect cappuccino or espresso can send us on a good 10km drive, bypassing all the mediocre, standard venues that we know just don’t hit the mark. So am I surprised to come across the Don Café House, situated in Pristina, Kosovo? Well, I’ve never been to Kosovo, but from what I hear coffee is taken extremely seriously. The passion has to be strong if you bring in architects to design your coffee house, which is dedicated entirely to the humble coffee bean. And that’s exactly what the owners of the Don Café did.

Pristina-based architects, Innarch took the whole concept from sacks filled with coffee beans. “The walls of the bar are made from plywood, are organically shaped and coloured like coffee sacks, whereby the pillars in between are coated with textile coffee sacks”

Both the tables and pendant lights represent the “bean” and are all lined up asymmetrically in order to generate the impression of
being inside a coffee sack.  I’m not sure if I want to feel all squished up while enjoying a cuppa, but I’m all for “feeling” the experience a designer wishes!

Aside from the reasons behind the design, this really is a space to check out and to take inspiration from. I just hope the coffee is as good as the interior!

Why not check out the Don Café House Facebook page for more info.

Best wishes,

Jess from Hector & Bailey
