Berlin’s hottest new boutique hotel – Das Stue

Written by Jess Binns

If I ever hear the name “Patricia Urquiola” my ears instantly prick up. Imagine my delight when I discovered that this very talented Spanish architect was responsible for the redesign of what was once Berlin’s Royal Danish Embassy into the hot new hotel property, Das Stue.

Situated next door to the Tiegarten Park, and facing the infamous Berlin Zoo, Das Stue opened its doors for the first time in December 2012. Built in 1939, the existing features such as the grand staircase where further enhanced by Urquiola’s selective interior approach.  “I had a vision of a luxurious house in mind, one that combines quality, heritage and contemporary architecture with one another.” The result is one of new and old blended together to create an oasis where you feel utterly relaxed in your surroundings.

The sense of the 30s building has not been lost or covered up, but celebrated with this resurrection, making Das Stue a very unique destination. The philosophy is one of creating a space where you can obtain the very purpose of your visit, be it escapism or a business meet. A tough call for most hotels, but one that Das Stue appears to be succeeding in.

The restaurant “5-Cinco” situated on site has to be one my favourite spaces. With a menagerie of copper pans creating a dramatic centrepiece and it’s dark, atmospheric setting, I could happily see myself working through one of the 30-course taster menus!

If you find yourself jetting off to Berlin, please indulge me and book a stay at Das Stue, or better still, please take me along with you!

For more information and bookings, please visit Das Stue here.
