Gardening in a BACSAC bag

I love container gardening. As an urbanite who lives in an apartment with a tiny balcony, it makes it possible for me to grow my own herbs, vegetables and flowers. All I need to get started with is a great fabric container that erases the need for me to build raised beds, test soil and all the other timely and expensive procedures that go with gardening.

My favourite container at the moment is the BACSAC bag. I’ve been growing a basil mint herb in a BACSAC bag for almost a month and I’m happy to report that it’s still alive and growing well. I’m sure when summer comes I’ll be having delicious salads and flavouring my meals with my mint basil.

Created by French designer Godefroy de Virieu, and landscapers, Virgile Desurmont and Louis de Fleurieu, the BACSAC bag is a weightless, flexible and user-friendly pot made from double-walled geotextile fabric. The fabric is 100% recyclable and maintains the necessary balance between air, earth and water to help plants grow.

If you’re also short on space or struggle to reposistion your pot plants then I suggest you get yourself a BACSAC bag. Some of the pots in the range are designed to be hung from railings or walls while others are perfect for container gardening in a yard, balcony, rooftop and basically anywhere you would like to plant.

Also if you start gardening in a BACSAC bag, you’ll never have to leave your plants behind when moving house. Infact, wherever you go your garden can come with too.

  •  BACSAC has officially launching in South Africa and orders are available at www.bacsac.co.za.
