Trick O Treat tables

Hello, Jess Binns, here from Hector & Bailey gracing you with my written presence! Being an interior architect who has recently moved to the sunny shores of SA from London, SA Home Owner has kindly asked me to bring you lovely people the latest and greatest from my European roots in all things interior and design related.

To kick off post number one, I thought I’d share with you the very talented Netherlands-based designer Roderick Vos who has recently opened his new store in Den Bosh, Netherlands.

I unashamedly adore this perfect mind, Roderick has an uncanny knack of creating the most timeless products and it seems this comes from a strong belief in avoiding temporary trends. He states on his website that: “I seek an enduring aesthetic – not a transient trend that momentarily amuses.” What I find ironic is that his designs from as far back as 2006, fit seamlessly with what interior fashionista’s are producing in the present! Take his “Trick O Treat” side tables for example….

His latest product, or you could say invention, is the “Botanic Bucketlight”. Born through the want of cleaner air within his studio, Roderick created the plant and light combination to meet this very requirement. To take it up to another level, he made the addition of a 220-volt plug, which allows computers and the like to be connected, negating the need for reams and reams of cabling strewn across the floor. Very clever don’t you think?

Working alongside his wife, Claire, also a designer, it’s clear that a career spent sharing his ideas with the very artisans who produce his products has kept Roderick grounded and focused from the factory level up.  As he says: “”I am nothing without these people – the men and women who blow glass, weld, cast, construct and upholster my furniture and more. I refuse to live in a design-orientated Ivory tower!”

I am and always will be a fan of Roderick Vos, his response to the provision of consistent, quality-driven furniture is one to truly admire. I hope one day to visit his wonderland nestled in this beautiful part of the world.
